Introduction:
My name is Yoshiyuki Shimizu. Now I am working at Tokai University, SHIZUOKA. The Shizuoka, my home town, is a very wonderful city with Mt. Fuji (see picture). I can see Mt Fuji from my campus through a beautiful sand beach, which has the Hagoromo-no-matsu (registered a World Cultural Heritage, 2013 as a part of Mt. Fuji, see picture). My current activity at the university is numerical modeling, which I have been working at Itasca Consulting Group, Inc., Minneapolis, USA since 1998. I am now working for イタスカジャパン as a senior consultant. The below is my profile and recent activities. If you are interested in, please contact me by e-mail. Thanks!

The research in my laboratory has two categories. One is numerical analysis (simulation) based on the Discrete Element Method and the coupling scheme with fluid, which is related to earth science and technology, such as system or machineries development on mineral and energy resources mining, civil, agricultural engineering and food industry, and so on. Also it is for disaster prevention by simulating landslide or debris flow. The other is development of new scheme or algorithms and the related software. We are making a software with C/C++ language with OOP(Opject Oriented Programing) used for numerical analysis based on the Discrete Element Method and the fluid coupling scheme including parallel algorithm using threads and GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). Our laboratry is involved in MH21 (MH21 Research Consortium), the national resaerch project from 2009, and then continue to research regarding to flow assurance of methane hydrate production system.

There are two simple numerical experiments using a sphere object and a flat plate object.

(1) The ball is sliding on the flat plate. The force at contact point between the ball and the flat plate is ..... see movie.

(2) Next, the sphere object is dropping down at constant height. The trajectory is ... see movie.

(3) If you increase sphere objects, you could simulate ... such as....

(4) Also, you could do that if you add fluid effect, see...
